Gail Werner Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

Gail Werner is a central Indiana wedding and portrait photographer.
Here’s where she tells you she likes the feel of the ocean and the
taste of champagne. Oh wait …

Truth is, she does love the ocean (when she can make it to a
coast!), but what she loves more is documenting the lives of her
clients — big days, little moments, they all carry meaning and deserve
to be captured.

This blog is where Gail shares her current client work and don’t be
surprised to find plenty of personal antecedotes on here as well.
Because when it comes to her life, Gail’s pretty much an open book. And
speaking of books, well, she loves those too. And her husband. And her
dog. So stick around and find out what else she likes or head over to www.gailwernerphoto.com to take a peek at her portfolio. Want to get a hold of her? E-mail Gail at gail@gailwernerphoto.com.

And just for the record, Gail also likes pina coladas but draws the line at getting caught in the rain.

Gail Werner is available for travel to any location.

Music is my sanctuary

The other day I was trolling etsy (ha! what else is new?!), and I stumbled across this lovely little print. And I thought, wow, four words that are pretty spot-on perfect. For me, anyway.

There are few things outside of one of my pastor’s sermons that can lift my spirits the way music does. In so many ways, in so many places. When I’m in the gym, getting my run on. When I’m getting out of the shower, getting my ready on. Or, as happened to me during my recent flight to Boston, getting my zen on (seriously, this song came on my iPod and between the views at 30,000 feet and the string chorus, I almost wept). Yup, that’s the beauty of music. It’s all things to all people — whenever we need it, whatever we need it to be, wherever we happen to be, it can be had.

Being the music junkie I am, I am a devotee of Paste Magazine. Like, Bella-loves-Edward lurrrrvveee it. It’s an indie ‘zine dedicated to new music, new film and relevant culture and it’s fought REALLY hard to stay afloat during this rough economy. Paste has become my No. 1 go-to source to find new music that quickly rises to the top of my playlists. Artists who now get the most play on my iPod (Josh Ritter, She & Him, Feist), I first heard about at some point thanks to this magazine. I have my lovely friend Jon to thank for introducing me to Paste and so now, it’s my turn to introduce it to someone else. Someone who LOVES indie and alternative music and independent films and books and so, in turn, would love this magazine too.

So if you think you might be that someone (and you live in the states) leave me a comment on this blog post*. Tell me something about music — what it means to you, who’s your favorite artist, or better yet, an artist you think I should know about — and I’ll pick one lucky guy or gal to start receiving their very own monthly subscription to Paste. ‘Tis the season to start giving, right? Well, I’m ON IT :)

*Deadline for commenting closes Friday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m.

(Full disclosure: Just for the record, I’m not going to start giving away a bunch of random stuff on this blog.. (ahh..you were hoping a car was next right?!) In reality, I got an email yesterday reminding me it’s time to resubscribe to this ‘zine and Paste is offering a free gift subscription to those of us resubscribing. Rather than waste the opportunity, I thought I’d put a call out to someone who might REALLY love a publication like this. Much better than clicking on “No thanks” for the offer, right?)

EDITED 12/6: Courtney Reece is the winner! Thanks to everyone who left me comments! :)

December 1, 2009 - 6:37 pm kelly - oh my goodness, we're surely kindred spirits gail! well i'm sure you're already familiar with most of my favorites so i'll mention a new musical discovery...great lake swimmers. they're enchanting!

December 1, 2009 - 9:40 pm rachael - this is exactly what i have been looking for + missing in my life. i spent years loving my music, pouring over new artists + savoring each new release. but life kind of swamped me for a while + i forgot about that part of me. now that i am ready to awaken that part of me that was asleep for a couple of years, i have no idea where to start. i would love to own such an incredible guide to indie, alternative + independent arts!

December 2, 2009 - 6:05 am Kelly - Music says what I don't know how to say. Music speaks for me.

December 2, 2009 - 8:03 am Courtney - Gaaaailll!!! I love that you're doing this :) Music is my EVERYTHING. Honestly there is no way to explain it. It can trigger emotions that I had no idea I had in me that day. It brings me up when I'm down, and down when I'm up. My never-fail relaxation technique is getting in my car with my music turned up LOUD and singing at the top of my lungs while driving aimlessly. And as lame as that sounds, its not a joke. :) I NEED new music inspiration...my playlist is getting boring. I would absolutely love this subscription. Keep me in mind, K?

December 2, 2009 - 10:27 am Maya Laurent - Does it count that I was thinking about getting this magazine for Pat? ;) I'm trying to learn from you both. I need to have you start sending me a monthly list of cool new music to check out so that I can make my husband think I'm in-the-know.

December 2, 2009 - 11:18 am lynn - Oh I love Paste, I had a subscription ages ago, when they included the CDs, and then for while they included a DVD, but now I think they just do MP3s? I honestly was worried they wouldn't make it, but it seems like their readers are very passionate. :)

December 2, 2009 - 2:41 pm mary saou - girl, you're speaking my language! i find myself particularly inspired by sweet movie soundtracks, such as the soundtrack to "I'm Not There" -- the movie about bob dylan (ish) wow... fantastic! if you haven't heard it, definitely give it a listen. it is indie heaven! the woman who truly sings to my soul would be patty griffin. she's not new, but has this timeless beauty in her songs that pinpoint exactly how you never thought an emotion could be expressed. if you don't have it, the album "1,000 kisses" is totally worth its weight in gold :)

December 2, 2009 - 7:47 pm Melody - I feel the same way! There's just something about finding awesome music that nobody else knows about. :) My fav group is Between the Trees...they're up-and-coming Christian/alternative.

December 3, 2009 - 1:49 pm Laura - Favorite artist - The Kills. You must check them out. The female band member takes some awesome photos. My aunt gave my mom a gift subscription to Paste a while ago. Which my mom never even picked up an issue but decided to give them to me. It's since ran out and I'd love to start reading it again. The pictures in the mag & the sampler CDs are awesome!

December 4, 2009 - 3:24 pm Jamie - Definately check out Jack's Mannequin if you haven't already, pretty much my favorite band forever and always. You should also check out Barcelona, Belle and Sebastian, The Decemberists, Manchester Orchestra, and maybe some Army Navy. Enjoy!

December 7, 2009 - 4:21 pm clary - YOu know this makes me happy Gail:) I've never read Paste but will start, especially after seeing Neko Case on the cover of that top mag. So if you haven't looked into Neko the best song to start with is 'This Tornado Loves You'

December 7, 2009 - 8:36 pm jamie delaine - how have i NOT HEARD about this mag?!!
