Gail! Thanks for the tip about Over the Rhine! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! :) I was playing my Sufjan Christmas album when we had friends over the other night. Of the WHOLE group (6 people) I think I was the only one who "got" it. They must be old... or very uncool. :P haha!!

Amanda,
I love your comment because it so reminds me of one of my favorite short stories. I had to read this in middle school and I have never ever forgotten it: O. Henry's Gift of the Magi http://www.online-literature.com/o_henry/1014/

Such a sweet post! - I spent most of 2002 oogling over a gorgeous blouse at a little boutique in Birmingham. I was in college at the time and it was too expensive for my measly part-time salary. It went on sale right before Christmas, so I splurged and bought it. I was so excited to tell my boyfriend (now husband) all about the deal I scored. He calmly went into the other room and returned with a gift. It was still a few days before Christmas, but he made me open it. It was the same blouse! He had picked out the perfect gift, and I went and ruined it. I felt horrible about it, but I learned my lesson about shopping for myself before Christmas!

one of my favorite gifts of all time that i received from erik was for our first christmas together. we both share swedish roots and to celebrate this he presented me with a beautiful hand painted dalahäst, or a dala horse. i knew he had gone out of his way to fnd such a beautifully painted piece and had come up with the idea months in advance, which made the gift all the more special. :) erik really is one of the best gift-givers i know - and it sounds like you have a pretty good one, as well! :) merry christmas gail!

Aww Gail these are so sweet! I LOVE the typewriter. When I get my office I want some old film cameras to use as book stoppers :) My BF and I have only been together for a little over a year and a half so we have only spent last Christmas together so far but he got me the sweetest gift. He bought a photo cube from a local craft store and put photos of us and our cat in it. When I opened it he asked me if I wanted to see how to open the cube to change the photos. I said sure and when I opened the cube there was a tiny box with a ring inside :) No it wasn't an engagement ring, but it's still beautiful. Just a tiny white gold ring with a heart and a few small diamonds on the front. Merry Christmas!
